Welcome to Session 3 of your SEO learning journey!
If you’ve already learned the basics of SEO and keywords, now it’s time to focus on On-Page SEO, which is all the things you do on your own website to make Google and AI search systems like your site.
As an SEO freelancer, I (Shraddha Gupta) will guide you step by step with simple words, real examples, and practical tips.
What is On-Page SEO?
On-Page SEO refers to all the things you can do on your website to improve its ranking.
Think of your website as a shop:
- On-Page SEO = how you decorate your shop, arrange products, write signboards, and make it easy for visitors to navigate.
- Done correctly → visitors love your shop → Google notices and ranks you higher.
On-page SEO includes titles, meta descriptions, headings, content, images, URLs, internal links, and formatting.
1. Title Tag Optimization
Your page title is like a book’s cover. It tells Google and users what your page is about.
Daily Life Example:
Think about newspaper headlines. A good headline grabs attention and tells you exactly what the news is about. A messy headline? You skip it. Same with SEO titles.
Tips for beginners:
- Make it interesting and clickable.
- Include your main keyword naturally.
- Keep it around 50–60 characters.
- Avoid repeating keywords unnaturally (no stuffing).
Example:
Bad: “SEO, SEO guide, SEO tips, SEO help”
Good: “On-Page SEO for Beginners: Easy Step-by-Step Guide”
2. Meta Description Optimization
Meta descriptions show below your title in search results. They encourage people to click.
Daily Life Example:
Think of a movie poster. The title catches your eye, but the tagline (meta description) convinces you to watch it. Same with meta descriptions for Google users.
Tips:
- Keep it 150–160 characters.
- Include your main keyword naturally.
- Make it clear and helpful.

3. Header Tags – Organizing Your Content
Header tags (H1, H2, H3…) are like chapters in a book. They help readers and Google understand your content.
Daily Life Example:
Imagine a cookbook without headings, all recipes are one long paragraph. You wouldn’t know where the pasta recipe ends, and the dessert recipe starts. Headings solve this problem.
Tips:
- Only one H1 per page — your main title.
- Use H2 and H3 for subtopics.
- Add keywords naturally where relevant.

H2: How to Write Titles
H3: Meta Description Tips
4. Content Optimization – Write Content That Helps People
Content is the heart of your page.
Daily Life Example:
Think of teaching a friend how to make tea. If you just say “Boil water, add tea, drink,” they might get confused. If you break it into steps, it’s easy to follow. Content should be clear, helpful, and easy to read.
Simple formula for beginners:
- Intro: Explain what the page is about.
- Subheadings: Break content into sections.
- Keywords naturally: Include your main topic without forcing it.
- Answer user questions: Solve what people are searching for.
- Conclusion: Summarize and guide the user.
Tips:
- Use related words (LSI keywords) so Google and AI understand your topic.
- Keep paragraphs short, add bullets, and make it easy to read.
Example:
Instead of one long paragraph about shoes, write:
- Lightweight design
- Comfortable cushioning
- Best for running and walking
5. Image SEO – Help Google Read Your Pictures
Images make your content attractive, but Google can’t read pictures; that’s where image SEO comes in.
Daily Life Example:
Think of your Instagram post — the caption explains the photo.
Tips:
- Use descriptive file names, e.g., best-running-shoes.jpg.
- Add ALT text naturally with keywords.
- Compress images for faster page speed.
Example:
ALT text: Best running shoes for women in India 2025
6. Internal Linking – Connect Your Pages
Internal links connect one page to another inside your website.
Daily Life Example:
Imagine you are inside a supermarket. Boards like “Fruits Section”, “Dairy Items”, or “Billing Counter” help you quickly find what you’re looking for.
Tips:
- Link to other relevant pages on your site.
- Use descriptive anchor text (not just “click here”).
- Helps crawlability and user navigation.
Example:

7. URL Optimization – Keep Links Simple
A URL is your page’s address on the web. Clean URLs are easy for both humans and Google to understand.
Daily Life Example:
Think of your home address. If it’s clear (“123 Main Street”), guests can find you easily. If it’s confusing (“House #45, Area X, City Y”), people get lost. Same with URLs.
Tips:
- Keep URLs short, descriptive, and readable.
- Include primary keywords.
- Avoid unnecessary numbers or symbols.
Example:
Good: www.yoursite.com/on-page-seo-tips
Bad: www.yoursite.com/page?id=12345
8. Avoid Duplicate Content – Be Unique
Duplicate content confuses Google and hurts rankings. Each page should have a unique purpose.
Daily Life Example:
Imagine a menu at a restaurant where every dish is listed twice. Customers will be confused. Unique pages help Google and users know exactly what your site offers.
Tips:
- Create unique content for each page.
- Use canonical tags if similar content exists elsewhere.
9. Content Formatting – Make It Easy to Read
Good formatting keeps readers engaged.
Daily Life Example:
Think of reading a textbook with no headings, no bullets, and long paragraphs. You’d likely skip it. Now imagine the same textbook with bold headings, bullet points, and short paragraphs much easier to read.
Tips:
- Use bullet points, tables, bold, and italics.
- Break content into short sections.
- Use subheadings for better scanning.
Example:
- Lists for steps or features
- Highlight key tips in bold
- Separate ideas into sections
